The Revolution Continues

One of the things I am constantly striving to do is to find a way to describe the witnessing of thought in a new an better way. Thinking is something that we do that is so natural to us that actually watching thought seems silly. But the simple act of observing yourself experiencing thought is a true revolution. One of the advantages of the Lion/Unicorn Theory is that is gives an explicit road map to find and follow those largest of mind patterns that drive our defensive behavior. This leads to the "ah ha" that there are subconscious patterns emanating from a primitive "thinker" somewhere inside our heads.

This seems to be the first step that so many must traverse - this discovery that our mind has been programmed and our perceptions and behaviors are being directed by that programming. The biggest barrier to this discovery is the sheer magnitude and pervasiveness of the patterns themselves. When we wake up in the morning we probably never think "there is a bed sheet under my body." And yet it is there, and in contact with a large portion of our exterior. When we drink something, we seldom pause to ponder the wetness of what we drink. Similarly we never question that the tires on our car are supported by pressurize air. How often do we drive down the road thinking, "Wow, air pressure, far out!"

And yet thought is a kind of air pressure in our brains. (This may explain why some appear to have bigger heads than others.) Witness Thought Therapy© asks us to do just that. It asks us to consider mental activity with a focus and attention that we would never use on something so natural, automatic, and mundane.

However, this leads to an absolute change in the way we look at the world. By watching every thought we discover something so radical it changes the way we live. We notice our patterns, we notice that there is a "thinker" inside that wants to dictate the meaning of life, and we notice our tendency to buy into the drama of thought without choice. As we awaken to this process, we automatically become more free from it - more detached from the "thinker."

The next thing that happens is that we begin to see how others are slaves to their inner thinker. We see them struggling to avoid their pain, eliminate their pain, and sadly acting out their pain.

Witness Thought Therapy© short circuits years of therapy and personal growth. It also makes going deeper so much more easy. My experience is that with those  who enter witness consciousness I can direct them right into their issues as they arise and they are spontaneously resolved. The Thinker cannot hide from the Witness!
